Editorial Policy

How HearthDry researches, writes, reviews, and updates water damage content for U.S. homeowners.

Our mission

HearthDry publishes water-damage-only educational content to help homeowners act quickly, understand insurance, and connect with qualified restoration professionals. We are not a restoration contractor, insurer, or government agency.

Editorial process

  1. Topic selection based on homeowner search intent and IICRC S500/S520 standards
  2. Draft by writers with restoration industry background
  3. Technical review by credentialed expert (see reviewers)
  4. Fact-check against primary sources (IICRC, EPA, FEMA/NFIP, Triple-I)
  5. Legal and YMYL review for insurance and health-related claims
  6. Publish with author, reviewer, and last-reviewed date visible
  7. Scheduled re-review per content type (see methodology)

Independence & conflicts

  • Contractors cannot pay for editorial placement, rankings, or guide content
  • Affiliate and referral revenue is disclosed on /affiliate-disclosure and /how-we-rank
  • Product rankings use field criteria — not commission rates
  • Sponsored placements are labeled at the point of display
