Federal flood insurance program administered by FEMA — required for mortgages in high-risk flood zones.
The NFIP provides flood insurance to homeowners, renters, and businesses. Standard homeowners insurance excludes flood damage — NFIP or private flood policies are the only coverage for river flooding, storm surge, and groundwater intrusion. NFIP policies have a mandatory 30-day waiting period before coverage begins.
