Franchise vs Independent FAQ

Are franchise restoration companies better?
Not automatically. Franchises (SERVPRO, ServiceMaster, PuroClean) offer brand recognition and standardized equipment, but independent IICRC-certified companies often provide equal or better service at lower cost. Evaluate each company on certification, reviews, and moisture documentation — not brand name alone.
Do franchises charge more?
Often yes — franchise fees (5–9% of revenue) and national marketing costs are built into pricing. Independent contractors with lower overhead may quote 10–20% less for the same scope. Always compare 2–3 written estimates.
Who does insurance prefer — franchise or independent?
Insurance companies don't prefer either — they pay based on scope and Xactimate pricing. Some carriers maintain preferred vendor lists (TPAs) that include both franchises and independents. You have the legal right to choose your own contractor in every state.
